Wankai's Parent Company Teams Up with France's Carbios to Develop Bio-Enzymatic Technology for rPET Recycling

2024-07-01
Wankai New Materials Co., Ltd.'s parent company, Zhejiang Zhink Group Co., Ltd., has partnered with the French biotech firm Carbios to advance bio-enzymatic technology for recycling PET (polyethylene terephthalate) flakes. The collaboration plans to establish a PET waste recycling facility in China with an annual capacity of at least 50,000 tons, leveraging Carbios' innovative bio-enzymatic process.

This initiative aims to strengthen the circular economy for plastics and textiles, benefiting local and global packaging and textile markets alike. Carbios, renowned for its leadership in biotechnology, is dedicated to revolutionizing the lifecycle of plastics and textiles through advanced recycling technologies, thereby enhancing sustainability across the industry.

Mr. Zhu, President of Zhink Group Co., Ltd., underscored the global strategic significance of the PET and textile industries, emphasizing the company's commitment to leadership in sustainable practices. The group is dedicated to advancing rPET recycling technologies and views Carbios' bio-recycling capabilities as pivotal in significantly reducing carbon emissions.

Mr. Emmanuel Ladent, President of Carbios, highlighted China's rapid progress towards a circular economy, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2060. He emphasized Carbios' technology's capability to recycle diverse PET waste into high-quality products, substantially reducing industrial carbon footprints. As a crucial partner for Carbios in China, Zhink Group is poised to spearhead global expansion initiatives.

The collaboration aligns seamlessly with China's sustainable development goals and "dual-carbon" targets, catalyzing advancements in the PET recycling industry. Carbios' bio-enzymatic technology provides a solvent-free approach to regenerate PET plastics and textile waste into products nearly indistinguishable from virgin materials, promoting a genuine circular economy. This innovation is projected to slash CO2 emissions by 57% compared to traditional PET production methods.

For Wankai New Materials, this partnership signifies a strategic leap towards boosting rPET production capacity and bolstering its sustainable competitiveness through cutting-edge bio-enzymatic recycling innovations.
