Celebrating Green Milestones: Wankai's Achievements on National Ecological Day

Located in Southwest China and constructed in October 2018, the Chongqing plant of Wankai New Materials Co. has now formed a production capacity of 1.8 million tons of bottle-grade PET resin, which is produced with both cost and quality advantages due to its abundant natural gas and advanced production technology, among other resources. Under such circumstances, the Chongqing plant has also taken strong actions to realize green polyester production, winning the national green factory as well as the digital 5G factory. Let's take a closer look at some of Wankai's notable achievements in energy conservation and emission reduction.

Water Conservation: Efficient Use of Resources

Water conservation is a critical aspect of sustainable manufacturing, and Wankai's Chongqing factory has implemented innovative solutions to address this challenge. By utilizing vacant land within the factory premises, Wankai constructed 1482.36 m² of rainwater collection ponds. This system captures rainwater, which is then treated and reused for internal processes and landscaping. This approach not only supports the factory's water needs but also significantly reduces water consumption. Annually, this system saves approximately 34,700 cubic meters of water, demonstrating Wankai's commitment to resource efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Carbon Reduction: Embracing Renewable Energy

In alignment with China's national "Dual Carbon" goals, Wankai is actively transitioning to renewable energy sources to reduce its carbon footprint. The Chongqing factory has taken a significant step by introducing 10 pure electric heavy-duty trucks into its logistics fleet. These electric trucks not only cut logistics costs by 20% but also contribute to substantial carbon reduction, eliminating 920 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. This move underscores Wankai's commitment to becoming a zero-carbon factory and its role in the broader push towards a low-carbon economy.

Energy Efficiency: Harnessing Clean Power

Energy efficiency is another cornerstone of Wankai's sustainability strategy. The Chongqing factory is advancing two major initiatives to cut harmful emissions: solar photovoltaic and esterification power generation systems. The solar project, in particular, is a standout achievement. By harnessing the power of the sun, the factory saves approximately 3.12 million kWh of electricity annually. This translates to a reduction of 1,024 tons of standard coal and cuts CO₂ emissions by 2,683 tons, NOx by 7.5 tons, and SO₂ by 8.7 tons.

Moreover, the factory operates three esterification power generation systems that further enhance energy efficiency. These systems save about 14.89 million kWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to reducing 4,880 tons of standard coal. The environmental impact of these savings is substantial, with CO₂ emissions reduced by 12,770 tons, NOx by 36 tons, and SO₂ by 42 tons. These initiatives not only lower the factory's energy consumption but also contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
