Wankai New Materials Co., Ltd. has embarked on a strategic visit to France, Denmark, and Germany to strengthen global collaboration in plastic circularity. Led by Director and Chief Engineer Mr. Qiu Zengming, the company engaged with leading European partners — Carbios, Novonesis, and BASF — to accelerate the development of enzymatic PET recycling, low-carbon production, and sustainable material innovation.

Advancing Circular Innovation: From China to the World

In a major step toward advancing global plastic circularity, Mr. Qiu Zengming, Director and Chief Engineer of Wankai New Materials Co., Ltd. , led a delegation from the company’s Research Institute and core engineering team on a strategic visit to France, Denmark, and Germany. During the visit, the Wankai delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with leading global chemical and biotechnology enterprises — Carbios, Novonesis, and BASF — under the theme “Technology Empowering Circularity, Collaboration for a Sustainable Future.” This visit marks a key milestone in Wankai’s internationalization strategy, accelerating its global layout in the field of plastic recycling and sustainable polymer innovation.


Three Strategic Pillars Supporting a Global Circular Ecosystem

🇫🇷 France – Carbios: Redefining the Future of Plastic Recycling

Carbios is the global pioneer of enzymatic plastic recycling technology, with a patented process capable of depolymerizing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste and textiles into purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG) under mild conditions — achieving a true “waste-to-virgin” transformation. 

Wankai and Carbios held extensive discussions on industrializing enzymatic PET recycling in China. Both parties plan to co-develop localized enzyme-catalytic processes tailored to the characteristics of Chinese waste materials and jointly promote the construction of one of the world’s first bio-recycling PET facilities in Asia. This collaboration aims to set a new benchmark for the global green circular economy.


🇩🇰 Denmark – Novonesis: Providing Enzymatic Power for a Circular System 

Novonesis, a global leader in industrial enzyme and microbial solutions, brings deep expertise in biocatalysis. During the meeting, Wankai and Novonesis discussed long-term cooperation on the stable supply, optimization, and application of enzyme systems for large-scale PET recycling. 

With continuous process feedback from Wankai's production facilities, both parties aim to improve enzyme efficiency and conversion performance, achieving higher yields and lower energy consumption in enzymatic recycling. This cooperation is expected to establish China’s first bio-catalysis-driven circular manufacturing chain.


🇩🇪 Germany – BASF: Building a Platform for Sustainable Material Innovation

At BASF's Ludwigshafen headquarters, Wankai's delegation held detailed technical discussions with the Innovation and Sustainability Team of BASF's Intermediates Business Unit. 

The two sides explored collaboration in recycled polyester material systems, low-carbon production models, and sustainable application development. By leveraging BASF's capabilities in digital material modeling and life-cycle management, Wankai aims to accelerate the adoption of green polyester materials in packaging, textile, and automotive applications.


Strategic Commitment to a Circular, Low-Carbon Future 

This European visit represents Wankai New Materials'transition from technological exploration to systematic implementation in its global sustainability roadmap. The company has identified three strategic focus areas: 


Technological Breakthroughs – Using enzymatic PET recycling as a core innovation, and collaborating with Carbios and Novonesis to create a closed-loop chain of “enzyme innovation – process optimization – industrial scale-up.” 


Industrial Chain Upgrading – Building a full-cycle green value chain covering raw materials, production, recycling, and reuse, supported by a high-purity rPET standardization system. 


Global Collaboration – Partnering with European industry leaders such as BASF to integrate global resources in technology, markets, and branding, establishing Wankai's strategic position in the global plastic circular economy.
