Wankai's First Overseas Production Project Officially Commences Operations in Nigeria

Wankai New Materials'300,000-ton/year food-grade polyethylene terephthalate (PET) project in Nigeria has officially commenced operations.

The first batches of bottle-grade PET resin have successfully rolled off the production line, with quality inspections completed and key performance indicators meeting the required standards. The successful commissioning of the facility marks a significant milestone in Wankai's global production strategy and establishes a new manufacturing base for serving customers across West Africa and international markets.

A New Production Base in West Africa

With years of experience in the bottle-grade PET industry, Wankai's products are supplied to customers in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.

As Wankai's first overseas production project, the Nigeria facility represents a major step in the company's global strategy, extending Wankai's capabilities from international sales and exports toward localized manufacturing and regional supply.

Covering a total construction area of nearly 70,000 square meters, the project is designed with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of bottle-grade PET resin.

The facility was developed in accordance with both international industry standards and local Nigerian regulatory requirements, incorporating Wankai’s experience in large-scale PET project development and manufacturing.

Strategically located in Nigeria, the project is positioned to serve customers across West Africa and the broader ECOWAS market, strengthening regional PET supply and supporting downstream industries including beverage packaging, food packaging, personal care and other applications.

From Project Construction to Successful Commissioning

The successful launch of the Nigeria project was supported by close coordination between Wankai's headquarters and its overseas project team.

During construction and commissioning, technical personnel from China worked closely with local teams on site, overcoming challenges related to cross-border logistics, equipment coordination, local operating conditions and cross-cultural communication.

Wankai also implemented dedicated technical training programs to develop a local operational workforce and strengthen the facility’s long-term production capabilities.

Through coordinated efforts across engineering, production, quality control and technical teams, the complete production system was successfully commissioned, enabling the project to achieve its planned start-up target.

Strengthening Regional Supply and Supporting Local Development

The successful commissioning of the Nigeria facility represents more than an expansion of production capacity. It is an important step in Wankai’s transition toward a more globally integrated manufacturing and supply network.

By establishing local PET production capacity in West Africa, Wankai aims to:

From China to the World

From Wankai's production bases in Haining and Chongqing to its first overseas manufacturing facility in Nigeria, the company is steadily building a more diversified global production network.

The Nigeria project is an important first step in Wankai's overseas manufacturing strategy. Alongside the Nigeria facility, Wankai is also advancing its Indonesia PET project, further strengthening its presence in key international markets.

Looking ahead, Wankai will continue to combine its strengths in production scale, technology, quality management and supply-chain capabilities with localized operations to serve customers closer to their markets.
